IELTS by Mercy provides IELTS preparation and learning services through the Website and the Learning Management System. Our services include IELTS preparation courses, structured video lessons, practice materials, mock tests, band descriptors, writing samples, vocabulary resources, instructor support, learning progress features, student account management, and related educational resources.
This Policy covers the Website and the Learning Management System, including Student, Instructor and Admin areas. If a third-party website or service is opened from our sites, that service has its own privacy practices and terms.
When you register as a student, we collect:
Depending on the circumstances, we rely on one or more lawful bases recognised under Nigerian data-protection law: performing a contract or taking steps at your request; your consent where required; our legitimate interests balanced against your rights; and compliance with a legal obligation. Where consent is the lawful basis, you can withdraw it at any time.
We will not use your personal information for direct marketing where consent is required unless you have provided that consent. Marketing messages will include a way to stop receiving them. Withdrawing marketing consent does not affect processing needed to provide services or comply with the law.
We do not sell or rent personal information.
Some service providers may process information outside Nigeria — for example, course-video playback through Google Drive. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we use a transfer mechanism permitted by applicable Nigerian data-protection law.
We periodically review retained information and delete or anonymise it when there is no longer a legitimate reason to keep it, subject to legal exceptions. Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active; you may request deletion by contacting us.
No online system can be guaranteed completely secure. If a personal-data breach occurs, we will assess it promptly and notify the NDPC and affected individuals where required by law.
You have the right to:
To exercise a right, email info@ieltsbymercy.com. We may need information to verify your identity before releasing or changing personal information.
For students under 18, we may collect the parent or legal guardian's name and contact details where needed to obtain or verify required consent. We will not knowingly use a child's personal information for unrelated advertising or profiling. Parents or guardians may contact us about a child's information at any time.
We do not currently use personal information for advertising or behavioural profiling, and we do not make decisions about students solely through automated processing where those decisions have legal or similarly significant effects. Course progress is used to support the learning service, not to make automated decisions about a student's legal rights.
Our sites may link to social media, Google Maps, Google Drive or other third-party services. Once you interact with those services, their own policies apply and we do not control their independent processing.
Our Cookie Policy explains the cookies and browser-storage technologies used on this platform and how you can manage them.
We may update this Policy when our services, technology or legal obligations change. Where a change is material, we will provide appropriate notice before or when it takes effect.
If you have a privacy concern, contact us first at info@ieltsbymercy.com. You may also contact the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) or the relevant authority in your country.
A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies can help a website remember that you are logged in, remember a preference, or understand how a website is being used. Similar technologies, such as browser storage, can do some of the same things.
The Learning Management System uses a small number of cookies and browser-storage items needed to provide the service and remember a display preference:
Strictly necessary technologies (like ielts_token) are used only where needed for core functions such as secure login and security. Optional cookies or tracking technologies will not be introduced without the consent required by applicable law. A refusal option will be presented in a clear and comparable way where consent is required.
Course videos are streamed from Google Drive. When you play a video, your browser connects directly to Google's systems, which may use their own cookies or similar technologies. These are controlled by Google, not IELTS by Mercy — see Google's Privacy Policy for details.
IELTS by Mercy does not currently use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or other advertising/tracking tools. If this changes, this Policy will be updated and any required consent obtained before non-essential tracking is used.
Where optional cookies are used, you can choose Accept, Reject/Decline, or manage preferences through the cookie notice, and change your choice later through the site's cookie settings. You can also use your browser settings to delete or block cookies — note that blocking the ielts_token session cookie will prevent you from staying signed in.
Where consent is required, it must be freely given, informed and specific. You are not required to accept optional cookies to browse the Website or use core platform functions. Withdrawing consent does not make earlier processing unlawful; it stops future optional processing.
We may update this Cookie Policy when our website, platform or third-party services change. The latest version and its effective date will be posted here.

IELTS by Mercy is the organisation responsible for the services described in these policies. These Terms apply to the Website and the Learning Management System, including related features made available through those sites.
Access to IELTS by Mercy is granted by an authorised instructor or administrator upon enrolment. Your account is personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for activity carried out through your account, unless you can show it occurred without your fault and you reported it promptly.
Where a student is a child or otherwise lacks legal capacity to consent, a parent or legal guardian must be involved as required by applicable law. We may request information needed to verify the parent or guardian's authority and consent.
Course fees, payment instructions and access periods will be communicated before you enrol or pay. Unless a separate written refund policy applies, fees for a course already made available to you are generally non-refundable to the extent permitted by law. If payment is overdue or reversed, we may suspend access after giving reasonable notice where practicable.
You agree not to:
The IELTS by Mercy name, branding, platform software, videos, written materials and other course content belong to IELTS by Mercy or their respective licensors. You receive a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to use the content for your own learning while you are entitled to access it. You do not receive ownership of the content, and this permission ends when your course access ends or your account is closed.
IELTS is a trademark owned by its respective rights holders, including the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. IELTS by Mercy is an independent IELTS preparation service and is not the official IELTS test provider, nor endorsed by or officially affiliated with those organisations.
We provide preparation, teaching and learning resources, but cannot guarantee a particular IELTS band score, test result, admission outcome or visa outcome. Results depend on many factors outside our control. Any figures about students trained or success rates describe general experience and are not promises of an individual outcome.
Some course videos are streamed through Google Drive. Availability of a third-party service can be affected by outages, changes or restrictions outside our control. Third-party services may also have their own terms and privacy policies.
We aim to keep the platform available and useful, but do not promise it will be available every minute or free from interruptions, errors or maintenance.
We may suspend or close an account where we reasonably believe you have seriously or repeatedly breached these Terms, misused the platform, compromised security, engaged in fraud, or failed to pay amounts due. Where reasonably practicable, we will explain the reason and provide an opportunity to resolve the issue.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the platform is provided on an "as available" basis. Claims about years of experience, student numbers or success rates describe general experience and are not guarantees of an individual result. To the extent permitted by Nigerian law, we will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the platform. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at info@ieltsbymercy.com or by phone at +234 806 646 3372. We will make reasonable efforts to resolve it directly. If the matter cannot be resolved informally, these Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and any court proceedings will be brought before a court of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria.
We may update these Terms when the services, law or platform changes. If a change is material, we will provide reasonable notice where required. Your continued use of the service after the effective date of a change will constitute acceptance only to the extent permitted by law.
